LoRaWAN CO2 sensor with five indoor measurements

Understanding indoor conditions requires more than a temperature reading. A LoRaWAN CO2 sensor adds ventilation information, while humidity, light levels and PIR presence provide further context for building operation. PIR detects movement and presence; it does not provide an exact headcount.

VISTA WAVE combines these five measurements in one LoRaWAN CO2 sensor. Data can be collected remotely and integrated with a BMS via a compatible gateway to inform HVAC and room management strategies. Explore our indoor air quality sensors and compatible thermostatic heads.

Designed for offices, schools, public buildings, hotels and multi-occupancy housing in the UK and Ireland. Product capabilities should be assessed against each project; the sensor does not by itself establish compliance with local building or ventilation requirements.

Monitor CO₂ at a glance

VISTA WAVE monitors indoor CO₂ levels, giving occupants a clear indication of when ventilation may need attention. CO₂ is an indicator of ventilation conditions; it does not measure every indoor air pollutant.

For schools, offices and other buildings in the UK and Ireland, use readings alongside the ventilation strategy and applicable local guidance. The sensor alone does not demonstrate regulatory compliance.

Indicator light

The Green / Orange / Red indicator changes with the CO2 level and alerts you when it's time to ventilate to renew the indoor air.

CO2 monitoring for indoor air quality

CO2 readings help identify when ventilation may need attention. CO2 is an indicator of ventilation conditions, rather than a measurement of every indoor air pollutant. Measurement intervals depend on the configured settings.

CO2 measurement and calibration

CO2 readings support the assessment of indoor ventilation conditions. Follow the product documentation for calibration procedures and measurement settings; measurement performance does not establish compliance with local building requirements.

CO2 monitoring for ventilation decisions

Direct CO2 readings help inform ventilation decisions. Product measurement capabilities do not by themselves establish compliance with UK or Irish building or ventilation requirements; assess the complete installation and applicable local guidance.

L2D1: local wireless communication with compatible Nexelec devices

The NEXELEC L2D1 radio protocol enables direct local communication between VISTA WAVE and compatible Nexelec devices, such as FLOW thermostatic heads. This local link operates without a gateway or LoRaWAN network.

VISTA WAVE sends room temperature readings to associated FLOW thermostatic heads. This local communication is separate from remote LoRaWAN monitoring and BMS integration, which requires a compatible gateway.

Direct Local Communication

VISTA WAVE communicates directly with compatible devices

Local L2D1 link without a gateway

The local L2D1 link communicates directly with compatible Nexelec devices. Remote LoRaWAN monitoring and BMS integration require the appropriate network infrastructure and a compatible gateway.

Without a LoRaWAN network

L2D1 communications remain available locally, without going through the LoRaWAN network

FUOTA V2: remote firmware updates over LoRaWAN

VISTA WAVE supports remote firmware updates over LoRaWAN using FUOTA V2. Compatible network infrastructure is required to deploy updates.

FUOTA V2 enables supported fixes and improvements to be delivered remotely across an installed sensor fleet.

Remote updates simplify maintenance and can reduce the need for on-site visits.

NAVIXIS supports the deployment and monitoring of these updates for connected building portfolios.

Firmware improvements

Supported firmware fixes and improvements can be deployed through FUOTA V2 when updates are made available.

Open standard

FUOTA V2 follows a LoRa Alliance specification. Remote firmware updates require compatible LoRaWAN infrastructure that supports FUOTA V2.

Simplified maintenance

Remote firmware updates over compatible LoRaWAN infrastructure help minimise on-site maintenance visits.

Up to 10 years of battery life with one replaceable CR123

VISTA WAVE uses one replaceable CR123 lithium battery and offers up to 10 years of battery life, depending on configuration and operating conditions.

LoRaWAN room sensor for BMS integration via a gateway

VISTA WAVE measures temperature, relative humidity, CO₂, PIR presence and light levels, then sends readings over LoRaWAN. A compatible gateway enables integration with a building management system (BMS), including BACnet or Modbus where supported by the gateway and integration. Building teams can use these readings to inform heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) strategies in UK and Irish buildings. Control functions and energy performance depend on the complete system and its configuration.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our experts answer your questions

VISTA WAVE is a 5-in-1 LoRaWAN indoor environmental sensor for connected buildings. It measures temperature, relative humidity, CO2, PIR presence and light levels. Readings can be centralised on a monitoring platform or integrated with a building management system (BMS) via a compatible gateway, supporting building teams in the UK and Ireland.

VISTA WAVE measures five indoor parameters: temperature, relative humidity, CO2 concentration, PIR presence and light level. PIR detects movement and presence; it does not provide an exact headcount. Combining these readings in one LoRaWAN sensor helps building teams understand indoor conditions and room use.

Yes. VISTA WAVE measures CO2 and transmits readings over LoRaWAN. It also measures temperature, relative humidity, PIR presence and light level. A compatible gateway is required for BMS integration. CO2 readings help assess ventilation conditions; they do not measure every indoor air pollutant or establish compliance on their own.

VISTA WAVE measures CO2 concentration and provides a green, orange or red indicator to help occupants interpret the room reading. Use CO2 readings alongside temperature and humidity to inform ventilation decisions. In UK and Irish buildings, assess the complete ventilation strategy against applicable local guidance; the sensor alone does not establish regulatory compliance.

VISTA WAVE offers up to 10 years of battery life with one replaceable CR123 lithium battery. Battery life is not guaranteed and depends on configuration, measurement and transmission settings, network conditions and use. Longer replacement intervals can reduce maintenance visits across a larger sensor fleet.

L2D1 is Nexelec’s local radio protocol. It enables VISTA WAVE to communicate directly with compatible Nexelec devices, without a gateway or LoRaWAN network for this local link.

Local L2D1 communication can operate alongside remote LoRaWAN monitoring. Integration with a BMS requires a compatible gateway; the gateway-free claim applies to the local L2D1 link.

VISTA RISE measures CO2, temperature and humidity. VISTA WAVE adds PIR presence and light level measurement, making it a 5-in-1 indoor environmental sensor. Both support remote data collection over LoRaWAN. BMS integration requires a compatible gateway and an appropriate system integration.
