FLOW CORE: The Smart Thermostatic Head for Building Automation and Energy Efficiency

In a building, the heating system must be easy to control, reliable over time, remotely controllable, and fully integrated with Building Management Systems (BMS). FLOW CORE addresses these challenges with a compact, standalone thermostatic head that is easy to install.

FLOW CORE combines local control, long-lasting battery life, simplified configuration, centralized monitoring, and rugged field performance. Thanks to its connectivity, it integrates with energy management strategies and allows operators to monitor, adjust, and optimize heating throughout the building from their building management system (BMS) platform.

A solution designed for apartment buildings, hotels, offices, schools, and commercial buildings.

NODE: Measuring Temperature in the Right Place

The temperature near the radiator can be affected by convection, exposure to sunlight, a curtain, or a draft.

With the NODE** remote sensor and the Nexelec L2D1 wireless protocol, FLOW CORE’s control system uses a temperature that more accurately reflects the room’s conditions, providing a level of comfort that closely matches what you actually feel.

The L2D1 protocol provides a direct radio link between NODE and FLOW CORE, without the need for a gateway or a LoRaWAN network. Reliable local communication to improve control accuracy.

NODE has been issued a calibration certificate by an independent COFRAC-accredited metrology laboratory to ensure reliable control that meets the requirements for commercial buildings.

NODE Remote Sensor

The temperature is measured away from the radiator, directly in the room

Accuracy: ±0.5 °C

Fine-tuning of the thermostatic head to maintain a more stable set temperature

More consistent comfort

Heating control is based on measurements that more closely reflect how occupants feel

L2D1 Radio Link

Direct local communication between NODE and FLOW, without relying on the LoRaWAN network

Continuously adjustable heating, even without the
cloud or a wireless connection

FLOW CORE stores its heating schedules in memory. The LoRaWAN thermostatic head therefore continues to regulate the system even if network connectivity is temporarily unavailable.

The wireless network and the cloud are used to monitor, update settings, and report relevant information. It is not necessary to control each valve in real time.

Adjusting the temperature in 0.5 °C increments allows for finer tuning of the setpoint and improves room-by-room heating control.

Less reliance on the cloud

Control is not based on continuous remote commands

Onboard Scheduling

Heating scenarios are stored directly in the thermostatic head

Control Continuity

The heating system continues to operate even in the event of a temporary power outage

Optimized LoRaWAN Network

Radio communications are limited to status reports, alerts, settings, and updates

Simple setup and quick commissioning

FLOW CORE can be configured locally via contactless NFC technology using a smartphone, or remotely via the LoRaWAN network. This dual-approach simplifies installation and reduces commissioning time

For a large facility, settings can be configured in advance and then adjusted remotely based on the site’s needs

NFC Settings

Simple, fast, and contactless local configuration via a smartphone

On-site survey

5 colored tabs make it easy to identify equipment during installation and maintenance

Remote Configuration

Updating instructions, settings, and schedules via LoRaWAN

Simplified Installation

Software that is updated remotely

FLOW CORE can receive remote software updates via the LoRaWAN network.

This allows the installed base to benefit from security patches, improvements, and new features without the need for routine on-site intervention.

This capability extends the operational lifespan of the equipment and simplifies maintenance for large-scale deployments.

The feature can leverage NAVIXIS, Nexelec’s IoT monitoring software, and its LoRaWAN gateways, with an end-to-end tested LoRaWAN FUOTA V2 pipeline: firmware preparation, network distribution, deployment monitoring, and fleet status monitoring.

Scheduled Maintenance

Operations can be scheduled in advance based on usage patterns and battery status reports

Less maintenance, greater service continuity

Maintaining a fleet of LoRaWAN thermostatic heads involves more than just replacing batteries. It’s also important to minimize usage deviations, anticipate malfunctions, and avoid unnecessary trips.

Battery monitoring tracks energy levels and activates a red indicator light to help anticipate maintenance needs.

With its anti-seizing feature, open-window detection, control lockout, and remote monitoring, FLOW CORE helps reduce service calls and maintain service quality.

Anti-seize

Automatically activates the radiator mechanism once a month to prevent the thermostatic valve from becoming stuck when the heating system is not in use

Open Window Detection

Turn off the heat for 30 minutes to avoid wasting energy

Control Lock

Disables the manual adjustment dial to prevent any unintended local changes

Business Continuity

Fewer breakages, less misuse, fewer on-site service calls
