Technical information

VISTA RISE: a LoRaWAN CO2 sensor for indoor environmental monitoring

VISTA RISE is a LoRaWAN CO2 sensor for facilities managers, school estates teams and building systems integrators. It measures carbon dioxide, room temperature and relative humidity, providing three complementary readings from a single device.

This CO2 temperature and humidity sensor helps teams review indoor conditions in offices, meeting rooms, classrooms and shared spaces. LoRaWAN communication makes the readings available remotely through compatible infrastructure.

Monitor CO2 to identify rooms that need ventilation attention

In occupied rooms, CO2 levels are a useful indicator of how effectively air is being renewed. VISTA RISE measures CO2 every 5 minutes and displays a green, amber or red indication on its housing.

The visual indicator helps occupants recognise changes in CO2 levels and respond according to their ventilation procedures. With a compatible monitoring platform, facilities teams can also review trends across different rooms.

CO2 is one indicator of ventilation; it is not a complete measure of indoor air quality. VISTA RISE does not measure every indoor pollutant and does not control ventilation by itself.

A CO2 temperature and humidity sensor for thermal comfort

Temperature and relative humidity add context to CO2 readings when reviewing indoor conditions. VISTA RISE provides temperature measurement accuracy of ±0.2 °C and relative humidity accuracy of ±2% RH.

A CO2 temperature and humidity sensor can help facilities teams compare rooms, understand temperature changes and provide inputs to heating and ventilation strategies. The benefits depend on sensor placement, data interpretation and the building systems installed.

A wireless CO2 sensor for retrofit projects

VISTA RISE is a wireless CO2 sensor powered by one replaceable CR123 lithium battery. Battery power and radio communication avoid the need to run a power or data cable to each sensor, making it suitable for existing offices, schools and commercial buildings.

The sensor mounts on a wall using screws and wall plugs or the supplied adhesive fixing. A lockable base, anti-theft screw and tamper detection support installations in shared spaces.

Before deploying a wireless CO2 sensor across several rooms, check LoRaWAN coverage at each location. Remote monitoring requires a compatible gateway, network server and application platform.

A CO2 sensor for schools and classrooms in the UK

As a CO2 sensor for schools, VISTA RISE helps estates teams monitor classroom CO2 alongside temperature and humidity. The three-colour indicator provides an immediate visual indication on the device, while compatible LoRaWAN infrastructure supports central monitoring.

When planning a CO2 sensor for schools project, consider placement, radio coverage, access to readings and the actions staff should take. The same approach applies to meeting rooms, offices, public buildings and other occupied indoor spaces.

Installing a sensor alone does not establish compliance with UK ventilation or building requirements. VISTA RISE provides measurements to inform the building operator’s decisions.

A CO2 sensor for BMS integration

Selecting a CO2 sensor for BMS projects means checking the full communication path. VISTA RISE transmits readings over LoRaWAN. Integration with a Building Management System requires compatible gateways and interfaces.

A suitable gateway can expose readings as BACnet points. BACnet communication is provided by the gateway or integration layer; VISTA RISE is not a direct wired BACnet sensor.

The readings from a CO2 sensor for BMS integration can feed supervision tools and support heating, ventilation or air-conditioning strategies. Any automatic response depends on the control equipment and software installed.

L2D1: local radio communication between compatible devices

VISTA RISE supports NEXELEC’s L2D1 radio protocol for direct communication between compatible devices. This local exchange does not require a gateway or a LoRaWAN network.

L2D1 and LoRaWAN have separate roles: L2D1 handles local communication between paired devices, while LoRaWAN carries readings to compatible remote monitoring infrastructure.

NFC commissioning and FUOTA V2 remote firmware updates

Configure VISTA RISE from a smartphone using NFC and the NEXELEC TOUCH app. Local configuration helps installers prepare devices and commission building deployments.

FUOTA V2 supports remote firmware updates over compatible LoRaWAN infrastructure, reducing the need to visit each sensor for updates. NFC configuration alone does not provide the network connection required for remote monitoring.

Up to 10 years of battery life with a replaceable CR123 battery

VISTA RISE runs on one replaceable CR123 lithium battery, with up to 10 years of battery life depending on settings and operating conditions.

This power arrangement supports wireless sensor deployments across multiple rooms or buildings. Battery replacement should still form part of the installation’s maintenance plan.

Choosing between VISTA RISE and VISTA WAVE

VISTA RISE focuses on three measurements: CO2, temperature and humidity. If your project also requires PIR presence detection and light level measurement, see the VISTA WAVE LoRaWAN sensor.

VISTA RISE: frequently asked questions

What does the VISTA RISE sensor measure?

This CO2 temperature and humidity sensor measures carbon dioxide, room temperature and relative humidity. It does not include the presence detection or light level measurement available on VISTA WAVE.

How do I read the CO2 level?

VISTA RISE measures CO2 every 5 minutes. A green, amber or red LED indicates the level on the device. Readings can also be viewed remotely through compatible LoRaWAN infrastructure and software.

Does this LoRaWAN CO2 sensor need a gateway?

Remote monitoring requires compatible LoRaWAN coverage, a gateway, a network server and an application platform. Local L2D1 exchanges between compatible paired devices operate independently of this infrastructure.

Can I install a wireless CO2 sensor without running cables?

Yes. VISTA RISE runs on a battery and mounts on a wall using screws or adhesive. No power or data cable is required at the sensor. Check radio coverage before commissioning remote monitoring.

Can VISTA RISE be used as a CO2 sensor for schools?

Yes. It can monitor CO2, temperature and humidity in classrooms. A deployment should include suitable placement, clear access to readings and procedures for responding to the measurements.

How can I use VISTA RISE as a CO2 sensor for BMS?

The sensor sends readings over LoRaWAN. A compatible gateway and integration interfaces make the data available to the Building Management System, including as BACnet points where the infrastructure supports this.

How long does the battery last?

One replaceable CR123 lithium battery provides up to 10 years of operation, depending on settings and operating conditions.
