Technical information

VISTA MOVE: a LoRaWAN occupancy sensor for buildings

VISTA MOVE is a LoRaWAN occupancy sensor for offices, meeting rooms, schools, hotels and shared indoor spaces. It combines PIR motion detection with light level, temperature and relative humidity measurements in one device.

Facilities managers and systems integrators can use these four inputs to understand activity and indoor conditions across a building. Readings are transmitted wirelessly to compatible LoRaWAN infrastructure and can be used by a monitoring platform or Building Management System (BMS).

For UK commercial building and retrofit projects, the sensor provides information for lighting and comfort strategies without requiring a power or data cable at each device.

A LoRaWAN motion sensor with detection up to 6 metres

The integrated LoRaWAN motion sensor uses passive infrared (PIR) technology. Detection extends up to 6 metres, with a 120° angle.

Motion events indicate activity within the covered area and can provide inputs for lighting, heating or space management scenarios, depending on the compatible equipment and software installed.

A LoRaWAN motion sensor does not count people or guarantee detection of a stationary occupant. Plan sensor placement and coverage for the intended application rather than interpreting PIR events as an exact occupancy count.

A LoRaWAN light sensor for lighting strategies

VISTA MOVE includes a LoRaWAN light sensor that measures ambient light from 0 to 5,000 lux. Light readings complement motion events when reviewing the conditions in a room.

A compatible control installation can use motion and light level inputs to adapt lighting strategies to detected activity and available daylight. The scenarios and switching functions must be configured in the BMS or lighting control system.

The LoRaWAN light sensor supplies readings. VISTA MOVE does not directly switch the electrical supply to luminaires or replace their control equipment.

A LoRaWAN temperature and humidity sensor for indoor comfort

Alongside motion and light sensing, VISTA MOVE operates as a LoRaWAN temperature and humidity sensor. Measurement accuracy is ±0.2 °C for temperature and ±2% RH for relative humidity.

These readings help facilities teams consider detected activity together with room conditions. They can highlight environmental changes and provide inputs to heating, ventilation or air-conditioning strategies.

A LoRaWAN temperature and humidity sensor alone does not guarantee energy savings. Outcomes depend on the building, control settings and how the data is used.

A wireless occupancy sensor for existing buildings

VISTA MOVE is a wireless occupancy sensor powered by one replaceable CR123 lithium battery. Radio communication avoids the need to run a power or data cable to the device.

Wall mounting is possible using screws and wall plugs or a suitable adhesive fixing. A lockable base, anti-theft screw and tamper detection support installations in shared spaces.

Before deploying a wireless occupancy sensor across multiple rooms, check radio coverage at the proposed locations. Remote monitoring requires compatible LoRaWAN infrastructure, including a gateway, network server and application platform.

Occupancy and environmental inputs for BMS integration

A LoRaWAN occupancy sensor can feed motion events and environmental readings into building supervision tools. VISTA MOVE integration with a BMS requires suitable LoRaWAN infrastructure and interfaces.

The data can be used in lighting, heating and ventilation strategies. The functions available depend on the monitoring platform, control equipment and software installed.

L2D1: local radio communication between compatible devices

VISTA MOVE supports NEXELEC’s L2D1 protocol for direct radio exchanges between compatible devices. No gateway or LoRaWAN network is needed for that local communication.

L2D1 is separate from the LoRaWAN connection used for remote monitoring. The devices that can be paired and the functions available depend on their compatibility.

NFC commissioning and FUOTA V2 updates

Configure VISTA MOVE using NFC and the NEXELEC TOUCH smartphone app. This local configuration can be completed on site without a LoRaWAN connection for the configuration step.

FUOTA V2 firmware updates use compatible LoRaWAN infrastructure. This allows firmware improvements and fixes to be deployed remotely, reducing the need to visit each sensor for updates.

Up to 10 years of battery life on one CR123 battery

One replaceable CR123 lithium battery powers VISTA MOVE. Battery life is up to 10 years, depending on settings and operating conditions.

Battery power supports deployments across several rooms or buildings. Battery replacement should still be included in the installation’s maintenance plan.

Which VISTA sensor suits your project?

VISTA MOVE combines motion detection, light levels, temperature and humidity. If you only need presence detection and light measurement, explore VISTA SPACE.

To add CO2 measurement to these four functions, see VISTA WAVE. For CO2, temperature and humidity monitoring without motion detection, see VISTA RISE.

VISTA MOVE: frequently asked questions

What does VISTA MOVE measure?

VISTA MOVE detects movement using PIR technology and measures light levels, temperature and relative humidity. It does not measure CO2.

What is the detection range of the LoRaWAN motion sensor?

PIR detection extends up to 6 metres, with a 120° angle. Actual coverage depends on sensor placement and the characteristics of the area being monitored.

Does a wireless occupancy sensor count people?

No. VISTA MOVE detects movement rather than counting occupants. A stationary person may not be detected, so PIR events should not be treated as an exact people count.

How can the LoRaWAN light sensor support lighting control?

Light readings and motion events can feed a compatible BMS or lighting control system. That installation determines the scenarios and controls the luminaires.

Is VISTA MOVE also a LoRaWAN temperature and humidity sensor?

Yes. It measures temperature with an accuracy of ±0.2 °C and relative humidity with an accuracy of ±2% RH, alongside motion and light sensing.

Is a gateway needed to view data remotely?

Yes. Remote monitoring requires compatible LoRaWAN infrastructure. Local L2D1 communication between compatible paired devices can operate without a gateway or LoRaWAN network.

How long does the VISTA MOVE battery last?

VISTA MOVE offers up to 10 years of battery life using one replaceable CR123 lithium battery, depending on settings and operating conditions.
